Commission/Marriott Decision

The city is being cautious because the offer was unsolicited. The developer has made a more than $1.5 million offer to buy a plot a land at Gaines Street and Railroad. The developer says he wants to build a Marriott Residence Hotel.

"A hotel would be very good. It would bring in more retail down there," says Director of Economic Development, Michael Parker.

At the commission meeting on Wednesday evening the city decided to hold off on making a decision until September.

In the meantime, the City Commission wants to investigate the offer, but the commission does say it’s very excited about the prospect.
