Bush, Cabinet Approves Homeowners Insurance Break for Charley Victims

Gov. Jeb Bush and the Cabinet Tuesday approved a measure to give residents in some hurricane-ravaged counties a two month break from homeowners insurance premiums.

The insurance rule change also will prevent some residents from having their homeowners insurance canceled for at least that long.

The proposal by state Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher was unanimously approved. Gallagher and Bush say they haven't had have any indication that home owners are facing cancellations, but were taking the action as a precaution.

The rule applies to storm victims in Brevard, Charlotte, DeSoto, Hardee, Lake, Lee, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Sarasota, Seminole and Volusia Counties.
