If at First You Don't Succeed...

Tanisha Harper dropped out of school in the 9th grade. Now, at the age of 25, she's pursuing her GED, a step she made for her eight-year-old son and for herself.

Tanisha says, "You have to do it for yourself because you see all of these people moving and you're not moving. It is not a good feeling for me, I know that."

Tanisha says many of her friends are attending college, causing her to feel somewhat left behind, but she's taking a free GED course offered at Tallahassee's B.L. Perry Library. She says it's been one of the best decisions she's ever made.

Tanisha says, "I was at a fifth grade level and I couldn't do anything, but I stuck with it and boom, I started dividing, multiplying, because I didn't know how to do any of that."

Patti Brownstein says, "Years ago when they were in high school, they weren't ready, they weren't motivated and weren't interested. Many of them had problems that made them drop out."

Now, Tanisha says she is ready as she is currently preparing for her GED test that she takes on September 7.
