The boot drives raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. If the ordinance is passed during the upcoming September meeting, MDA says it will end the annual fundraiser which raises thousands of dollars locally.
Kenny Schultz, a city of Tallahassee firefighter, says, "We are extremely happy about being able to boot drive. We are going to go out there and prove ourselves."
Suzie Austin, MDA spokeswoman, says, "We feel confident. We thank the commissioners, the mayor and the attorney for working with us and postponing the vote on this ordinance."
The city says that police have received hundreds of phone calls complaining about people collecting money in the streets. Firefighters say plan to see them all over town this Thursday, Friday and Saturday starting at 8 a.m. in the morning.
