People trying to make it home following this long fourth of July weekend were faced with rain and slick roads.

Interstate ten was covered with crashes in Madison county between mile markers 221 and 242.

Troopers say in the span of four hours there were more than six to eight multiple car pile ups.

They say the crashes were caused by other drivers paying more attention to the crashes than the road.

FHP Charles Swindle says, "We've had some rubberneckers out here. People need to pay attention to the road when they're coming through areas like this. Don't worry about what's on the side of the road, pay attention to where you're going to prevent other crashes from happening."

Troopers say around the holidays, crashes on the interstate increase due to a heavier flow of traffic.

Drivers are warned to be cautious and slow down when driving through a crash site.
