Hurricane Frances is now bearing down on the Turks and Caicos Islands, and still shows the potential of gaining strength.
Frances is now centered about 700 miles east-southeast of Florida's east coast. Movement remains to the west-northwest at 15 miles an hour, though the forward speed is expected to slow a bit.
Top sustained winds remain at 140 miles an hour with higher gusts. This could vary, and forecasters say Frances could increase in strength as it nears the Bahamas.
There's a hurricane warning for the Turks and Caicos Islands and for the southeast and central Bahamas. A hurricane watch is posted for the northwest Bahamas.
Hurricane-force winds extend out 80 miles from center, with tropical storm force winds out up to 185 miles.
Frances centered at latitude 21.8 north, longitude 70.4 west.
