All 21 animals, 11 dogs and 10 cats removed by Animal Control from a Leon County home off White House Road have been euthanized.

Leon County Animal Control says the owner, Teresa Grissett, signed over the animals to the county so they could be evaluated. Veterinarians found that each animal's physical conditions and behavior was irreversible.

Officials say even though some of the pets looked healthy many were diseased and had no human contact making them a threat to the public.

Animal Services is still looking for a few cats on Grissett's property.

At this time, there are no cruelty charges brought against her, however the investigation is still open..

Theresa Grissett is outside cleaning up her property trying to do anything to get her animals back--This comes just one day after Leon County Animal Control, Tallahassee Fire Department and Leon County Sheriff's came to this trailer and removed 11 dogs and 10 cats.
"I was scared." says Grissett, "I got forced to come home and that's when I saw all my cats, all my dogs being taken out of here. I'm not the best person in the world, but I love animals. And I'm not cruelty to animals."

Animal control responded to an animal welfare tip- but were overwhelmed when they arrived at the home off White House Road.
Richard Ziegler, with Leon County Animal Control says, "The inside living conditions was to me deplorable. Umm.. it was terrible. In my 26 years I think that is the worst I have ever seen the inside of a house that houses animals and people."

Animal Services called in back up because the smell of feces and ammonia was overwhelming, and there was no telling how long those animal were living in those conditions. "Whenever we come across a situation like this our concern is for both the humans and the animals. The environment is not doable for either one."

Grissett could face animal cruelty charges- but right now her main concern is to bring the animals home..but she may never have that chance. " If they were in my shoes they would do the same things- I mean I love cats I love dogs it just you know- nobody wants to stay out of my business."

The animals that were removed yesterday are still being examined by Veterinarians.

Grissett says this isn't the first time animals have been removed from her home.
Until they get that report back they cannot go any further.
LSCO says at this point it is not a criminal investigation, that could change at a later date.

Animal Control got a tip and when they arrived off 12404 White House Road, they found a trailer with no ventilation and at least a dozen dogs and cats inside.

The responders had to call for back up because of the overwhelming and pungent smell of ammonia and feces.

Firefighters air bombed the trailer and authorities started removing the animals.

The homeowner did eventually show up. Police escorted her off the property for a "mental" evaluation.

The case is under investigation.
We will bring you more details as they become available.

The euthanisia, or killing, of those animals was totally unnessary, but giving the tremendous pet overpopulation problem we have, with 1,000s of healthy and friendly animals being killed at the shelter, the choices are limited. Animals have an amazing ability to survive and overcome abuse. But these animals never had a chance, as animal control had already decided to kill them. Just because they had bad living conditions, doesn't meant they need to be put down.

I have a hard time believing all these animals "had" to be killed when just a week or so ago I saw an article right here on this site about the animal shelter being over-crowded and they have lowered the adoption fee...now all of a sudden they "had" to kill these 21 animals. I think its disgusting how she lived and I hate that the animals were a product of her neglect of cleanliness but I highly doubt their behavior was irreversible. Whatever...cant be undone.

To R Ziegler....Step it up. Have you found that dirt road on the southside, with a dog in a cage? That poster must be a joke. How could anyone find a dog like that? No wonder you don't listen to her, sounds like a nut case to me.
