State officials say people in 18 counties who lost their jobs or businesses because of Hurricane Frances may be entitled to Disaster Unemployment Assistance.
Many workers will be covered by the state's regular unemployment comp program, but those who aren't can apply for “disaster unemployment assistance.''
The federal program is designed to help people who lose work because of disaster.
The program covers people who are self-employed, owners and workers on farms and ranches, commercial fishermen and other workers who are not normally covered by regular unemployment.
The deadline for applying is October 6.
