One Injured in Alabama Street Shooting

The Tallahassee Police Department continues its investigation into the shooting incident which occurred last night at approximately 9:35p.m. TPD was called to the 800 block of Alabama Street after a neighborhood resident called 911 and stated they heard what appeared to be an argument or loud yelling. TPD Patrol Officers arrived and found a male lying in the street, suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The officers immediately began to give medical aid and summoned emergency medical personnel. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is recovering from his injuries.

Investigators from TPD’s Violent Crimes Unit and Forensic Unit responded to the scene and are conducting a methodical and thorough investigation into the incident, including reviewing all evidence and interviewing all witnesses. The victim has been identified as James Byrd Jr DOB: 04/14/1968.

Neighbors reported an argument earlier in the evening. TPD arrived and found a black male in the street suffering gunshot wounds.

The man has been taken to the hospital and is being treated.

No suspects have been named at this time.

TPD is investigating.

The shooting occurred right in front of Griffin Middle School near the intersection of Alabama St and Old Bainbridge Rd. At least 15 TPD cars with multiple K-9 units on scene.

Alabama is closed between Woodward Ave and Old Bainbridge Rd.
