NEWBERRY, Fla. (AP) -- A passing deputy helped save a 25-year-old man who had stopped breathing while playing football at a sports complex in north Florida.
Alachua County Sheriff's Deputy Thomas Thueson was patrolling the area when he decided to swing by the Easton Newberry Sports Complex on Wednesday night.
The Gainesville Sun (http://bit.ly/TlcVOa ) reports a group of people flagged down the deputy who performed CPR and used an automated external defibrillator on Jerry Alexander until he regained a pulse and took a breath.
Officials say it's not known why Alexander fell to the ground unconscious. He was taken to a hospital where he's in stable condition.
