Tallahassee, FL - It's time for Floridians to choose a governor, and this year's race is expected to be expensive and dirty.

Now that the primaries are over, experts say we're now at the start of a long, close general election race.

FSU Political Science Professor, Carol Weissert, says, "A lot of money is going to be spent. This is going to be the most expensive race by a long shot in Florida history."

A lot of that money will be spent on advertising. Campaign ads are already up of Florida Governor Rick Scott and former governor Charlie Crist for the 2014 general election.

Scott has reportedly said he's going to spend $100 million in this campaign. He spent $70 million of his own money in the 2010 campaign.

Weissert says there will be a lot of outside money in this gubernatorial race. She says, "Recent Supreme Court decisions have indicated that there's no limit on individual contributions anymore. The so-called non-profits, social groups don't have a lot of control over them. You got rich groups, rich individuals giving money. You got rich individuals that sponsor groups that give money."

Weissert adds, "I think you're going to see a lot of mudslinging in this race." She says that's because Crist and Scott are well-known. Therefore, instead of introducing themselves, their money and time is spent turning voters against the other candidate.

However, some residents say that doesn't always work with them.

Tallahassee Chris Chrestensen says, "I typically change the channel. I try and do my own research and then I also talk to people that I know that are into politics and get their opinions."

Tallahassee resident Ryan Dilorenzo says, "I already know who I'm going to vote for, despite the negative ads. I'm not sure why they're still put out in the first place."

The general election is Tuesday, November 4th.
