Armed Robbery at Valdosta Walmart

On March 27, 2013 at approximately 2230 hours (10:30 pm), the Valdosta Police Department responded to the Wal-Mart at 340 Norman Drive in reference to an armed robbery involving a knife.

Officers arrived and were told that an African American male had approached the victim, Tenna Buchanan, in the parking lot, held a knife to her and demanded her purse. Buchanan advised that she struggled with the offender, but that he was able to get her purse and leave the area. Buchanan did receive a minor cut on her upper left arm, believed to have been from the knife. Officers checked the area, but were not able to locate the offender. Detectives from the Valdosta Police Department Person’s Crime Unit responded to investigate.

Video was obtained from the Wal-Mart surveillance cameras and this morning the offender was identified as Kenneth Lewis by officers of the Valdosta Police Department who have had contact with him in the past. Officers went to Lewis’ residence and took him into custody this morning at approximately 0815 hours (8:15 am). Lewis was brought to the Valdosta Police Department for questioning and was later transported to the Lowndes County Jail. An arrest warrant for the Armed Robbery has been signed on Lewis and other charges may be filed.
