Arrest Made In Valdosta Attempted Robbery

At approx. 5:45 pm, Valdosta Police responded to Southeastern Federal Credit Union for a robbery in progress.

When officers and detectives arrived, they took into custody Ivan Sumlin, 54 years of age, from Cecil, Georgia. Sumlin entered the bank and passed a note to a bank teller reflecting he was robbing the bank. Sumlin later told investigators with VPD that he was joking.

"Because of his actions, he caused panic in the bank with bank employees and customers. This is not a joke. Someone could have been seriously hurt"

Sumlin was taken to the Lowndes County Jail after being charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit Robbery.

Valdosta, GA - An African American male reportedly handed a note to a teller demanding money. The man is now saying it was a joke. The bank is at 3501 North Valdosta Road.

An arrest has been made.
