TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General Pam Bondi introduced a resolution today at the Florida Governor and State Cabinet meeting in Tallahassee, recognizing March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

“People with developmental disabilities are amazing individuals. They bring joy to the lives of their friends and families. They also improve their communities through service to public and private employers, their churches and other nonprofit organizations, said Attorney General Bondi. ”It’s important to recognize the obstacles they overcome on a daily basis and to provide every opportunity possible to help people with disabilities succeed in Florida.”

The first state funded program for Floridians with developmental disabilities opened in 1921. Today, services are offered to individuals with all types of disabilities through a number of state agencies including, Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Department of Children and Families, Agency for Health Care Administration, Department of Elder Affairs, Department of Health and the Department of Education’s Division of Blind Services and Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.
