Bengal Tiger to Call Tallahassee Its Temporary Home

A 325 pound bengal tiger, certainly not your typical housecat, will be prowling the Big Bend this winter. The tiger is on loan to the Tallahassee Museum from the Carson Springs Wildlife Conservation in Gainesville.

"Tigers are critically endangered and they're losing space everywhere they occur. The Bengal tiger is the most numerous sub-species left, but there may be only 3,000 of those and they're disappearing in a hurry," said the museum's animal curator Mike Jones.

The tiger just turned 2 years old on Saturday and is expected to gain more than 150 more pounds as it continues to grow. He'll be at his new habitat until March.
