Big Pan Pass-Off Release

Tallahassee, FL - When you are expecting about 800 guests for Thanksgiving Dinner you need lots of help and lots of pans! Nearly 200 empty steam-table casserole pans will be ceremoniously awarded to community partners on Thursday, November 1 at 10:00 a.m. at the American Legion Post 13 on Lake Ella. Humorously dubbed "The Big Pan Pass-Off", acceptance of the empty pans constitutes a serious pledge from each partner to return its pans on Thanksgiving Day full to the brim with delicious holiday staples: turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potato and green bean casseroles.

The Big Pan Pass-Off marks the official call to action for Tallahassee's Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner. Over its 28 year history, this event has served thousands of Tallahassee citizens experiencing tough times, limited resources, homelessness, isolation or loneliness. With the help of American Legion Post 13, the community meal will return to its original, more central location at Lake Ella on November 22 with meal service from 11:00 - 1:00 inside Post 13. Dessert and live music will be served under the tents out back with a great view of the lake.

Special bus service will provide transportation for guests from:
· Home Front for Veterans, Big Bend Homeless Coalition
· Tallahassee Veterans Village, Volunteers of America
· HOPE Community, Big Bend Homeless Coalition
· The Shelter
· The Renaissance Community Center
In addition to the local business and agency partners, about 175 volunteers are needed for 2-3 hour shifts on both Wednesday and Thursday. Volunteers will carve over 50 turkeys, raise tents, set up tables and chairs and serve the 800 guests expected to share this year's meal. All volunteers must register in advance by calling 205-5211.

The Ghazvini Family, event coordinator, will welcome local dignitaries and present empty pans to this year's team of community sponsors:
· 2nd Helpin' Catering LLC
· Big Bend Homeless Coalition
· Leon High School
· Lively Vocational School
· Keiser College
· America's Second Harvest of the Big Bend
· Baycrest Corporation
