TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Legislation that would regulate all health clinics in the state is moving slowly through the statehouse.
But the bill exposes a gap in regulation that allows businesses to dispense drugs and provide treatment with little oversight.
The measure is aimed at clinics that have managed to evade the full licensure process to register with the state.
Currently, clinics can register for an exemption from licensure for a number of reasons, including the acceptance of cash only.
Cash-only clinics can open their doors, advertise and provide services without an annual inspection.
