The Lowndes County Bird Supper has been going on for over 50 years, and it will continue on Wednesday.

It is a way for elected officials and businesses to meet with state lawmakers ion Atlanta to talk about the issues that effect them on a local and state wide level.

The 2014 Bird Supper takes place at the Historic Georgia Depot in Atlanta. Valdosta Mayor John Gayle said some of the issues they are concerned with include the fractional sales tax bill and others.

"We like to think it gives us some recognition and we do it for that because right down here in south Georgia, we have a hard time being heard sometimes in Atlanta and we have to go up there to make sure they hear us," said Mayor Gayle.

Tickets are still on sale for $50 as of Tuesday.

The Lowndes County Bird Supper, originally scheduled for this Wednesday, has been postponed. The event, co-sponsored by the City of Valdosta and Lowndes County, will be held on Wednesday, March 5.

The decision was made for the utmost safety of all involved with the event. The Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service predicts the potential for ice and snow for north Georgia this week. Georgia Governor Nathan Deal has declared a State of Emergency for 14 counties, with the possibility of more to be added later.

Citizens with reserved tickets to the Bird Supper, originally scheduled for Feb. 12, are being contacted with the new details. The location of the event has not changed. The information has also been posted to both the City of Valdosta and Lowndes County web sites.
