Tallahassee, FL - Tallahassee Police are investigating an early morning shooting that left one man dead.

The man's body was found in the middle of Osceola Street.

His sister and friends say his name is Andrew Thomas Miller.

One woman who lives in the neighborhood says she heard the gunshots. She says, "I heard it say pow, pow, pow. After a while I heard the ambulance coming. After a while, I seen the fire truck behind it. I didn't know until my son went down there and said somebody had gotten killed."

Tesha Mitchell says she grew up in the area. She says, "It scares me because the crime in Bond area is getting out of control. I have teenage boys myself and it's just getting ridiculous."

Police say they got a call around 4:45 Tuesday morning from someone who said they heard gunshots.

They say Miller was dead when they got to the scene. His body was lying across Osceola Street between Saxon Street and Poppy Street.

Mitchell says, "This crime is getting outrageous. Bond, they got to do better. We got to come together as a unity and stop this violence."

Police walked throughout the neighborhood talking to potential witnesses and looking for leads.

TPD Officer OFC David Northway says, "The police department and all law enforcement rely on our partners in the community to be our eyes and ears. We cannot be everywhere. We rely on our citizens to partner with us and give us a hand, give us a call."

TPD says the shooting is the fifth murder in Tallahassee this year. Officers say one of those murders was justified as self-defense.

Just a few weeks ago, a man was stabbed and killed only a few blocks away from here. Now, to see another man shot to death and left in the middle of the road, has community members concerned.

Tallahassee resident Stan Roberts says, "I'm kind of disgusted about what is going on in our community today. Nobody's chasing us with whips and chains anymore. We have so many opportunities. It's a shame to see our young black folk going through what we're having now, and there's no sense of it."

Roberts says it's unfortunate, but hearing of another murder did not come as a surprise.

Police have not released any further details at this time.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Big Bend Crime Stoppers at 850-574-TIPS.
