Man Pulled From Chattahoochee River Identified

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP) -- Authorities have identified a man whose body was pulled from the Chattahoochee River on Sunday as 44-year-old John Taomandge Attaway.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan tells The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer ( that no cause of death has been determined, but no visible injuries were found on the body. Bryna said Attaway was homeless and may have been staying in his vehicle, which was found in Phenix City.

Phenix City police had found the man's car and wallet near the 13th Street Bridge.

COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) -- Fire and rescue officials in Columbus say they've pulled a man's body from the Chattahoochee River.

The man was found near the Civil War Naval Museum Sunday afternoon. Chief Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley says the body will be taken for an examination before any additional details are released.

Officials have not released the man's identity.
