Police Release Statement on Valdosta High Bomb Threat [SLIDE SHOW]

On April 24, 2013, at approximately 1:15 pm, the Lowndes County 911 center received a 911 call with the caller stating there was a bomb located at Valdosta High School. Law enforcement immediately responded to the scene and students/teachers were evacuated from inside of the school.

The school was searched by bomb detection k-9’s and law enforcement personnel with no explosive devices located. School functions resumed after the building was cleared.

Detectives with the Valdosta Police Department immediately began intensely investigating this incident. Detectives were able to track down the telephone number that called in the threat which eventually led to the discovery of the person responsible for calling in the threat.

Kahlil Berrian, 20 year old Valdosta resident was arrested for this incident and is currently being interviewed by personnel from the Valdosta Police Department. Charges anticipated are Disrupting a Public School and Terroristic Threats which are both Felony charges. Berrian will be transported to the Lowndes County Jail.

Students were allowed back in school at 3pm.

Valdosta, GA - The Valdosta Police chief has expressed that police do not believe there is a real threat at this time, but they are continuing to investigate.

Valdosta City Schools Response:

ATTENTION: There has been a bomb threat this afternoon at Valdosta High School. At this point we have all students accounted for and everyone is safe. Local law enforcement has taken over and is currently sweeping the school and we hope to resume our normal activities as soon as possible. Please be aware that this will cause our buses to run behind schedule this afternoon and that will have a trickle down effect our entire school transportation system. As always the safety of our students is our top priority and we reiterate that your students are safe and have been accounted for this afternoon.

Valdosta, GA - Robo call were placed to parents this afternoon. Buses will be late on their routes.

Valdosta, GA -The threat was called in just after 1pm.

All entrances to the school are being guarded by the Valdosta Police Department.

Students are being held on the property, at a safe distance from the school. No one is allowed to enter or exit the grounds.

No roads are currently shut down at this time.
