TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-April 6 through April 12 is National Crime Victims' Rights Week, and Attorney General Pam Bondi will be recognizing the 30th anniversary of the Victims of Crime Act and honoring victim advocates at the Victims' Rights Week Ceremony on Wednesday, April 9, at 10 a.m. in the Cabinet meeting room, located in the State Capitol.

This year's theme is 30 Years: Restoring the Balance of Justice. Three decades ago, victims of crime had virtually no rights or assistance; however, today, victims are afforded rights and assistance under the Victims of Crime Act and numerous state victims' rights laws.

"As a former prosecutor, I know we must support crime victims and their families and appreciate the hard work of victim advocates," stated Attorney General Pam Bondi. "It is imperative that crime victims and their families have the assistance they need to help them throughout any criminal proceedings and to help them move forward with their lives after a tragedy."

The Florida Crime Victims' Bill of Rights states, "Victims of crime or their lawful representatives, including the next of kin of homicide victims, are entitled to the right to be informed, to be present, and to be heard when relevant, at all crucial stages of criminal proceedings, to the extent that these rights do not interfere with the constitutional rights of the accused."
