Tallahassee, Florida- July 12, 2012

The Florida Legislature is in session ... Sort of.

Seniors from across the state gathered at the Florida Capitol today.
530 boys are participating in the 69th Session of the Florida American Legion's Boys State program. During the weeklong events, delegates learn about government by playing the roles of all aspects of the legislature and supreme court.

Said Jordan Thompson, Tallahassee resident and 'Governor-Elect': "I got to look at how a real campaign is run. You have different committees for the rallies and the platforms. It was a good experience-- you get to meet a lot of people, and you also learn a lot about legislation and law."

The boys have elections, challenge and pass legislative bills.
Seven participants are from Tallahassee, and about two dozen are from the Big Bend.

Friday, July 13 is the last day.
