Monticello, FL, November 8, 2012 - The owner of a Madison County cat sanctuary who's facing animal cruelty charges heads to court next month.

The case against Craig Grant, the owner of Caboodle Ranch, will go on trial December 20. There is a pretrial motion set for December 3.

About 700 cats were seized from Caboodle Ranch by the Madison County Sheriff's Office last after allegations of neglect arose.

Monticello, FL, November 2, 2012 - The attorney for a cat sanctuary has filed an appeal, seeking to get the nearly 700 cats seized from Caboodle Ranch back.

The attorneys for Caboodle Ranch filed the appeal at the Madison County Courthouse Friday.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office seized the 653 cats after reports of neglect.

WCTV reached out to the Sheriff's Office for comment. But he is out of town and unavailable.

More than 650 cats were rescued from Caboodle Ranch back in February. Now, many of them are available for adoption.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, known as the ASPCA, was granted full custody of the cats following a civil trial against the ranch's owner. The ASPCA has been caring for the cats in a temporary shelter in Jacksonville for the past five months.

Tim Rickey is the Senior Director of ASPCA Field Investigations and Response. He said the ASPCA has been working hard to get the cats to a basic health level.

"We do have some cats here that are going to need ongoing medical care. And we're hoping that there are people willing to open up their hearts and homes to come in and give one of these cats a second chance," said Rickey.

The ASPCA is holding an adoption event this coming Saturday and Sunday, August 11Th and 12Th at the shelter in Jacksonville. Three hundred cats will be available at that site. There is no fee for these adoptions.
