Gretna, FL - Canty Lane in Gretna near M.L. King Boulevard has been paved.
City officials say the road used to easily flood.
Soil erosion and other conditions made it almost impassible for people and public safety vehicles.
The Canty Lane Roadway Improvement Paving Project was two years in the making.
Gretna City Manager Antonio Jefferson says, "Our mantra for this particular project is, 'promise made, promise kept.' We promised the residents down here that we would do something about their abilities to get in and out of their residence during storm events, and we got it done."
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday morning. The project was a partnership between the Gretna City and Gadsden County Commissions.
The $109,000 in funding came from a state disaster recovery initiative.
