Valdosta, GA - November 24, 2012

A black Honda Civic erupted into flames on the side of the highway next to the truck weighing station one mile north of North Valdosta road.

Dustin Campbell, a Moultrie resident, tells Eyewitness News exclusively that he had no idea the fire was going to happen. Campbell was driving southbound on Interstate 75 heading toward Valdosta to purchase Christmas presents for a friend.

That’s when he heard what he describes as multiple “knocks”. Campbell pulled off on the shoulder and lifted the hood to investigate. Minutes later a small fire ignited under the hood.

As the fire spread, Campbell grabbed his belongings out of the car and ran for safety. Campbell watched as the Honda Civic erupted into flames. Thick smoke from the fire bellowed out over the interstate, effecting visibility for drivers.

Firefighters and Lowndes County Sheriff’s Deputies showed up on the scene to put out the fire and direct traffic. Campbell was the only occupant of the vehicle and no one was injured.
