One Dead After Vehicle Crashes into Local Middle School [SLIDE SHOW]

Tallahassee, FL - The investigation into a deadly crash at a Tallahassee middle school is now focusing on the possibilities of mechanical failure and the driver's health.

48 year old Charles Belk was killed Friday afternoon when his car smashed into griffin middle school.

Tallahassee police investigators haven't made a final ruling on the cause, however, they are checking the possibility that car trouble or Belk's health may have contributed to the crash.

Tallahassee, FL - December 2, 2012 - We now know the name of the man killed in an crash at Griffin Middle School, Friday.

He was 48-year-old Charles Belk. Tallahassee police says the man was speeding west on seventh avenue. They say he went through the stop sign at Alabama Street and crashed into the middle school. The car caught fire. No children or staff were injured in the crash.

Tallahassee, FL - A car crashes into a middle school, leaving a huge hole, and residents nearby wondering what happened.

Had this happened just a few hours earlier, this could have been an entirely different story.

More than a dozen cop cars, caution tape all over, and a big gaping hole on the side of Griffin Middle School.

Nae Cooper, lives nearby, "I'm wondering what caused him to do that."

Nae Cooper was among many people on the scene wondering the same thing - how this car ended up smashing into the school.

Witnesses say this happened around 5:00 pm, and just a few hours earlier, students would have still been in the building.

Henry Allridge, lives nearby, "I'm just glad school was out and no kids were put in danger."

The driver inside the crunched up car was however, killed.

Tallahassee Police say the driver came down 7th Street, crossed Old Bainbridge, then went right through the school entrance and into the building.

Nae Cooper, Lives Nearby, stated, "there could have been pedestrians walking he could have hit or injured someone other than himself."

What exactly caused the driver to do this is still a mystery.

The driver's identity has not yet been released; Police wanted to wait until they notified family.

While no students were on campus, the school's cleaning crew was, and we talked to a staff member who was in a classroom right near the impact.

He didn't want to go on camera, and was visibly shaken, but told WCTV when he heard the crash, and saw the wreckage he couldn't believe what had just happened.

Tallahassee, FL - TPD has confirmed a driver is dead in a single car crash into Griffin Middle School today.

No one else was injured in the crash, although the area where the car struck the school building has sustained serious damage.

Authorities say the driver appeared to been heading down 7th street when they crossed Bainbridge and hit the side of Griffin Middle School.
