DELTONA, Fla. (AP) -- The family of a man who was fatally shot as he worked in his backyard on Christmas says they're living a nightmare.

Authorities said Thursday the shooting appears to be accidental but the investigation continues.

The person investigators believe fired the shot that killed 69-year-old Bruce Fleming admitted to firing the shot in a nearby yard. But Volusia County Sheriff's deputies say the man said he didn't know his shot hit anyone.

Jessica Blackwell told the Daytona Beach News-Journal her father was working outside while Christmas dinner was being prepared. Fleming's son Joshua found him lying in the dirt, bleeding, and ran to call 911. The son then helped his father to the driveway. Crews arrived and took him to a hospital where he died a short time later.

DELTONA, Fla. (AP) -- A central Florida man died after being shot in the chest while standing in his backyard on Christmas morning.

Volusia County sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson says it appears the Wednesday morning shooting was accidental.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports 69-year-old Bruce Fleming was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. His wife, son and grandson were at the Deltona home when the shooting happened.

Davidson says the bullet appeared to have come from the northeast.

Deputies were interviewing a man late Wednesday who may have fired the shot from a nearby residence.

No further details were immediately available.
