CONYERS, Ga. (AP) -- Officials in Rockdale County say a 6-year-old boy playing with a lighter started a blaze that killed four of his siblings and left his mother badly burned.

Daniel Morgan, Rockdale County Fire and Rescue chief, announced the findings at a press conference Friday night. A fire Tuesday night tore through a Conyers duplex, killing 8-month-old Deon Glass, 3-year-old Armoni Roberts, 7-year-old Dar'Shawn Glass and 9-year-old Ah'Dariya Glass.

The unidentified 6-year-old was thrown from a second-story window and survived the blaze, as did the children's unidentified grandmother.

Authorities say Reeba Glass, the children's mother, was hospitalized with burns throughout her body at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Officials say the fire started near a second-floor bathroom and the home had one non-working smoke detector on the first floor.

CONYERS, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities outside Atlanta say four children, including an infant, are dead after rescuers tried to save them from a house fire.

The fire burned late Tuesday night at a duplex in Conyers, east of Atlanta.

Police say another child, who is 6, was thrown by his mother from a second-floor window. He survived but injured his shoulder.

Glenn Allen, a spokesman for Georgia's fire commissioner, tells The Associated Press the mother was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta with second- and third-degree burns.

Allen says seven people were in the home: a grandmother, the mother and five children. Conyers police Major Mike Waters told reporters the children who died range in age from the infant to 7 years old.

Allen says there's no indication to what caused the blaze.
