Jasper, FL - Residents of Jasper, FL are celebrating both the holidays and their win in the fight to save the Jasper City Park from demolition.

They lit up the park with brilliant Christmas lights Tuesday after a short speech by city leaders and the Development Authority.

In August a contractor wanted to tear it up and put in a shopping plaza but residents revolted and said no.

"I'm talking generations of people have been here and used this park," said Charles Williams, Jasper City Manager. "It's actually a land mark here in the City of Jasper. And I think the thought of losing it was just too much for most of the people in the community."

Williams says the city signed legislation to prevent the park from ever being bought.
