City Council Approves Repairs of Wastewater Treatment Plant

Posted: Fri 4:55 PM, Mar 22, 2013

-- Valdosta, Ga. -- March 22, 2013 --

The Valdosta City Council has unanimously approved a project to fix the Withlacoochee Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The project will replace air blowers and piping at the plant which will cost roughly three hundred and seventy thousand dollars. The plant is recovering from the recent floods that shut it down. Although the replacement is needed it's not the ultimate solution.

Jason Scarpate is the Assistant Valdosta Utilities Director. He said "moving the plant is top priority here. There's multiple reasons, the age of the plant, the deterioration of the plant and the fact that the plant is located in a flood plane. Those are primary reasons for having it relocated."

The relocation is scheduled to be done by august of 2015 and is expected to cost $20 million dollars.
