City, County Trying to Make Tallahassee More Lovable

From the football, to the parks, the city of Tallahassee has a lot to like about it. But is it lovable?

City and Leon County officials met with Peter Kageyama Monday. Kageyama wrote the book "For Love of Cities," a book about communities and how to get residents to love theirs more.

"The fact of the matter is we're doing some things now. Cascades Park, Gaines Street, those are the types of good things that make people feel happy and smile about their community," said Tallahassee Mayor John Marks.

With almost 200,000 people living in Tallahassee, folks must have found the place lovable enough to stay, right?

"To me it is, that's why I've lived here my whole life," said lifelong resident Laurie Hunter.

"Yea it's alright, it's small enough where I feel like we're not getting crushed by a big city but big enough where I feel like there's things to do," said Laurence Brown. Brown has lived in the city for six years after coming to Tallahassee for school.

People we talked to felt it was worth having the commission look into whether or not it was worth trying to make the city more lovable.

"Anything to keep people here, you know? To grow the economy, it's wonderful! This is a great place to live, I've always lived here, my roots are here, I was born and raised here."

The hope of the meeting is to have citizens generate ways to bolster the community. There will be a follow up public forum January 24th for residents to voice their own ideas.
