Search for Heroic Missing Florida Swimmer Halted

Riviera Beach, FL, February 11, 2013 - The search for a swimmer who went missing after diving into the water to help two 11-year-old girls has been halted.

The Palm Beach Post (http://bit.ly/WXE73A ) reports Edward "Butch" Garlinghouse Jr. disappeared into the waters off Singer Island Saturday afternoon.

Garlinghouse was one of four people who tried to rescue two children after they were swept into a wave. The girls were brought to safety and everyone but Garlinghouse made it back to shore.

Dive teams, boats and helicopters searched for Garlinghouse on Saturday and Sunday but were not able to locate him.

Singer Island is located near Riviera Beach, which is just north of West Palm Beach.

Riviera Beach, FL, February 10, 2013 - Coast Guard crews are continuing their search for a swimmer who went missing off Singer Island in rough seas.

The Palm Beach Post reports the man went missing Saturday after diving in to help two 10-year-old girls knocked into the water by a wave.

Several adults jumped in but one did not emerge.

Dive teams, boats and helicopters searched for the man but were not able to locate him. The search resumed on Sunday.

Coast Guard cutters and a search crew on a 45-foot boat are out looking for the man. Officials have not released his name.

Singer Island is located near Riviera Beach, which is just north of West Palm Beach.
