Tallahassee, FL - A Leon County Public Works employee makes it out alive after a train slams into his dump truck.

We were the only camera crew at the crash scene this afternoon.

The crash happened in the Chaires Community off "Road to the Lake Road".

Troopers say around 12:45, 57-year-old Jerry Jones was crossing the railroad tracks; they say Jones stopped on the tracks for unknown reasons, and the train hit the truck on the driver's side, spinning it around.

Dale Walker, Director of Operations with Leon County Public Works said on the scene, "We're very happy that our operator was injured no worse than what he was, and appears to be okay at this time being treated at the hospital. Given the damage that was done to the vehicle, it could've been much worse."

Troopers say Jones is in serious condition.

They say they don't know why his dump truck stopped on the tracks. The crash is under investigation.
