LAKE CITY, Fla. -- A man and woman in Lake City were arrested following a violent incident in which the man beat up a pregnant female and hid from police in friend's apartment.
Lake City police say they received a call from a victim alleging that she had been beat up by her boyfriend Monday morning. The victim told police that she was beat up in the breezeway outside of her apartment at the Windsong Apartment Complex.
She also told police that she was 4 months pregnant and that the father of her baby, Ronald Jones II, 35, punched her several times in the face and kicked her in the back of the head after she fell to the ground.
The victim was treated at the scene by EMS and transported to a nearby hospital for additional treatment. A domestic violence packet was completed due to the relationship between Jones and the victim.
Around 10:40 p.m. Monday night, police were alerted that Jones was hiding in an apartment at the Windsong complex and armed with a handgun.
The second floor of the building was evacuated and numerous attempts were made by officers by knocking and identifying themselves as police.
Lake city police say that an arrest warrant was processed and signed by a judge. The Columbia County SWAT Team responded to the scene due to a belief that Jones was armed and in the company of another female and a 5-year-old child.
Police said they made several attempts through text messaging and social media to Shelby Lee, the friend in the company of Jones, in order to gain entry into the apartment but failed.
SWAT ultimately entered and arrested Jones without incident. He was booked at the Columbia County Detention Center with a $50,000 bond.
Following an interview with Lee, she was also arrested for assisting Jones in hiding from police and booked at the Columbia County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.
Police say that the Department of Children and Family Services was contacted and Lee's child was turned over to her father.
Jones was charged with Aggravated Battery on a known pregnant female.
Lee was charged with Resisting an Officer without violence.
