Tallahassee, Florida- September 10, 2012
Tallahassee city commissioners will meet in a special legislative session Wednesday to ask for money.
City department heads plan to request money from state and federal governments. Commissioner Nancy Miller wants to finalize the money promised to the city from FEMA after Tropical Storm Fay in 2008.
The government agency promised Tallahassee $6.2 million to help fix sewer systems damaged by the storm.
"FEMA has indicated that they'll pay us back for that but yet we have yet to receive the check," said Miller. "We see how many years, I mean what was that, four years ago at least, so that's going to be something that we will be asking for help on."
Lobbyists will then go to the state capitol and Washington D.C. to make arguments on the city's behalf. Wednesday's special session will begin about 90 minutes before the regularly-scheduled city commissioner meeting at 4 p.m.
