Tallahassee FL- It's new years resolution season, and one local community is working to jump start a healthy living environment this weekend with a new program.
"We want to do a slow gradual education over a period of time and for it to be sustained," that's how the acting director of the Florida Department of Health in Jefferson County, Kim Allbritton, says she wants to teach people in Jefferson County.
With two out of three adults in Jefferson County overweight or obese, Allbritton explained, "The goal is to increase physical activity by starting a walking club. As well as providing an opportunity for individuals to learn more about how to live a healthier life."
So, to kick off a healthier lifestyle here in Jefferson County they are asking everyone to take a walk. They are calling it the Monticello Sole Mates and they will be walking in Clifford Brown Memorial Park from 10 am on Saturday until 1 p.m. The health department, along side the City of Monitcello and their chamber of commerce hope hundreds come out to learn about how to live a healthier life. Whether it's walking or biking, or just making healthier food choices Allbritton says, "This is the perfect opportunity for them to come out and exercise with the family with their friends with their buddies and hopefully start something that we can continue throughout the year."
The Sole Mates will be meeting this Saturday January fourth from ten to one and we were told everyone is more than welcome to stop on by and learn about your health.
