A local correctional officer was sent to the hospital after being stabbed by a prison inmate that created a weapon.
It all happened Wednesday, April 24 around 7:10 p.m.
According to the Florida Department of Corrections, the officer was doing a routine security check at the Suwannee Correctional Institution located east of Live Oak, Fl.
A DOC spokeswoman said the prisoner then attacked the officer with a lock attached to a laundry bag, stabbing him twice in the back. They said the inmate fashioned the weapon out of fencing.
Because of the investigation, officials are keeping a tight lip on the identity of the officer, prisoner and any further details.
The officer was treated and is expected to be okay.
