Valdosta, GA - Rhett and Thomas Rhett Akins are proud of their strong South Georgia roots. On Saturday they will come home to Valdosta for a rare performance at Wild Adventures. All to support their cousin Sophie, who has Cystic Fibrosis.
"Of course Sophie thinks she's best friends with all the country music singers because she knows Rhett and Thomas Rhett. So we are very excited. It is very humbling, very gracious of them to give their time", says Becky Smith, Rhett Akins' cousin and Sophie's mom.
On Saturday, the pair will host an exclusive meet and greet and sign photographs. All proceeds will go to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's "Great Strides Valdosta" in honor of "Team Sophie".
"They're my very favorite cousins and I can't wait to dance on stage with them", says Sophie.
Sophie's parents say their daughter lives just like any other six year old girl. And though, they say, it's not something you would ever envision for your child, their family has never treated her differently because of the disease.
"It's hard work but she does it and she doesn't complain about it. And we are very hopeful for the future", says Mabry Smith, Sophie's dad.
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder. Common symptoms include breathing difficulty and lung infections.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Development Director, Viki Nix, says,
"The CF Foundation depends solely on the public for support of our
mission to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with the
disease the opportunity to lead full, productive lives by funding
research and drug development, promoting individuated treatment
and ensuring access to high-quality, specialized care. Thomas
Rhett and Rhett Akins’ commitments to giving back will truly ‘add
tomorrows’ for those with cystic fibrosis."
To get into tomorrow's concert, all you need is a General Admission Ticket to Wild Adventures. For more information on Cystic Fibrosis and Team Sophie, visit cff.org org.
