Crack in FAMU Parking Garage Causes Upper Level to Close

A portion of the parking garage at FAMU is closed down because of needed repairs.

The Director of Facility Planning and Construction, Sam Houston, says a crack was found in two different places in the slab of the upper level of the parking garage.

Houston says engineers say there is no structural or safety issue. He says there are immediate plans to repair the concrete, along with other regular maintenance, such as painting.

FAMU student Cornell Wedge says, "It makes me kind of worry of using the parking garage in general because you never know if this can collapse like the one in Miami. You never know what could happen, the weather, anything can happen."

The upper level has been closed for four months.

Houston says Walker Parking Service out of Tampa, Florida is the construction company.
