DCF Announces New Anti-Fraud Initiatives [SLIDE SHOW]

Tallahassee, FL - Government officials say Florida ranks number one in the nation for identity theft.

Today, the Florida Department of Children and Families rolled out groundbreaking public assistance fraud fighting initiatives.

The technology ensures that those applying for public assistance benefits online are who they say they are by asking a series of questions.

The DCF Secretary David Wilkins says it will stop thieves before they defraud the system.

He says, "If you are entitled to benefits and someone else is receiving your benefits, then you don't get replacement benefits. So, when people are stealing someone's I.D., they're not just committing a crime, but they are literally harming that individual who rightfully needs those benefits to keep their family going."

Florida is the first to implement the technology.

Wilkins says it'll provide $60 million in savings and avoidance in one year.
