UPDATE:Arrest Made in Franklin County Murder

Apalachicola, FL-December 21, 2012

A Franklin County woman accused of killing her own mother allegedly did so by shooting and stabbing her to death, according to court documents.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office arrested Sandra Ann Loudermilk Conkel December 15 for the murder of her mother, Cynthia Green.

According to the Probable Cause, Loudermilk Conkel and Green drove west of Apalachicola December 12 where she and mother got into an argument and Conkel allegedly shot her in the back of the head before stabbing her more than 60 times.

Conkel was arrested. She is charged with first degree murder.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, arrested Sandra Anne Loudermilk-Conkel, 46, of Apalachicola, on charges of first degree murder in connection with the death of her mother, 68-year-old Cynthia Green.

Loudermilk-Conkel was arrested without incident this afternoon at her residence in Apalachicola. She is being held without bond.

The investigation is on-going. Office of the State Attorney, 2nd Judicial Circuit will prosecute this case.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), with the assistance of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, is conducting a death investigation where foul play is suspected.

Around 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, FCSO received calls referencing a deceased individual in the area of State Road 30A, 10 miles west of Apalachicola.

The victim has been positively identified as 68-year-old Cynthia A. Green who lives in Apalachicola.

A woman's body discovered in Franklin County is now being investigated as a homicide by the Sheriff's Office.

The body of a woman was discovered early Wednesday afternoon.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office says they found the body in the area of State Road 30A, about 10 miles west of Apalachicola.

The Sheriff's Office later identified the woman as 68-year-old Cynthia Green.

The Sheriff's Office won't say how they believe Green died. But they are calling her death a homicide.

"I was shocked. I couldn't believe it," says Louise Mills, who was Green's neighbor for several years.

"I hope who ever did or whatever happened to her, that they (the sheriff's office ) will find out because she didn't deserve it," says Mills.

Since 2005, Green worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Franklin Correctional Institution. They released this statement following the news of her death:

"The Florida Department of Corrections is heartbroken over the loss of one of our own, Cynthia Green. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ms. Green's family, her co-workers, and the friends and people in her community who loved her."

This is Franklin County's first murder of 2012.

The Sheriff's Office will not comment on any possible suspects or leads at this time. Nor is there any word on a possible motive for this crime.
