Thomasville, Ga -- 10/4/2011 -- 11:20PM --
It comes like clockwork each year: across the south, as the weather cools down, fair season heats up.
Thomasville tips its hat to the tradition with the annual Deep South Fair.
The event goes to the roots of a southern-style carnival -- with monstrous rides, tasty treats, and, of course, a down 'n' dirty demolition derby.
Explains Fair Manager Sam Harnevious, "Small town, with the times the way they are now, people aren't going off as much as they used to. So, it's our way of providing a little bit of entertainment for them."
Adds Thomasville resident Charlotte Mixon, "It's a good way to come out and see the community. The demolition derby is definitely fun."
Since the fair started in 1957, it's seen a steady increase in both attendance and vendor technology.
Most recently, what could be considered the fair's most 'iconic' ride has become eco-friendly.
The Briggs family has been bringing the Ferris Wheel to the Deep South fair for over a decade. This year, there's something a little different. All the lights have been replaced with LED lightbulbs, which are better for the environment -- but they cost about $100,000.
Even if it's just for a few days, the Deep South Fair looks like it'll deliver the 'good, clean fun' it advertises.
