Press Release: Leon County Sheriff's Office

On August 20, 2013 at 11:13 pm, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of North Monroe Street and Sessions Road in reference to a traffic crash. Deputies arrived and discovered that two pedestrians had been struck near the intersection.

One of the pedestrians, a male, was deceased on scene. The other pedestrian, a female, was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare. She sustained multiple injuries and remains in critical condition.

LCSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit responded to the scene and has assumed the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The preliminary investigation has indicated that a Nissan Altima and Ford Explorer were traveling north on Monroe Street approaching Sessions Road.

The traffic signal for northbound traffic was green. The two pedestrians were attempting to cross North Monroe Street in the crosswalk when they stepped into the path of the oncoming vehicles. The Nissan Altima struck both pedestrians and the Ford Explorer is believed to have struck at least one. Neither driver was injured or impaired.

The identities of the pedestrians will be released upon the notification of the next of kin. An autopsy will be performed on the male today. The investigation is still ongoing.
