Tallahassee,FL - Cascades Park is nearing completion with just one more week until the grand opening. This morning families were able to experience the new Discovery playscape within Cascades Park.
"I think it would be a nice place to bring a picnic and the kids can play and have fun and just hangout," said Megan Hance, parent
"Looking at the overall layout and how it sits into downtown Tallahassee," said Sherwood Brown, parent.
All of the features at Discovery were designed with the natural landscape of Florida in mind like the petrified wood used for the Cyprus climb. "It's actually Cyprus taken from the Dead Lakes in Wewahitchka and it floats to the top and we have a guy names Bob Sutton over there who gets them out and refinishes them to make to color come out beautifully like this," said Meghan Mick, Designer of the playscape, her company is From The Ground Up.
Other North Florida environmental features in the 7,000 square foot playground included the steedhead slide, log jump and the TMH20 water pump.
Discovery Playscape was made possible through partnerships between private companies and local government. First Commerce Credit Union financed the playground. They said for them it was great opportunity to give back to the community. "This additional amenity was unfunded and so KCCI had to go out and find private partners to bring the funding to the table to make this happen and we were thrilled to be able to partner with them in that," said Cecilia Homison, CEO First Commerce Credit Union.
In addition to getting to see the Discovery, kids were able to leave their mark. They were able to put their painted hand prints on the sidewalk where a picnic table will be placed.
