Tallahassee, Florida- July 30, 2012
Hundreds of people take a stroll through scenic downtown Tallahassee everyday.
It's a busy area for drivers. A regular walk down the street, could turn into a hazard if you're not careful.
"I think everybody has done it a time or two," said Tallahassee resident Tony DeGeorge.
He wasn't walking and texting, but says he's done it many times before.
"Sometimes you're just crossing the street and don't even realize you're doing it. Next thing you know, you're in the road," he said.
Tallahassee police warn you could bump into something or get struck by a car.
"Anytime you're in an area where there are cars and people, you're going to get yourself in trouble if you're not paying attention to your surroundings," said Tallahassee police PIO Dave Northway.
And, getting hit by a car or running into something aren't the only dangers.
"Someone can certainly run up and grab your cell phone out of your hand, your purse off of your shoulder," he added.
So, be careful and aware when talking while texting or using any other electronic device.
