Dothan, AL- It's been a little more than a week since Linda Miller and her grandchildren found the dog, who they're now calling Siri, in Cypress, Florida.

"I found her behind an empty house and when I got back there, I looked at her face and I was like, 'Oh my God,'" Miller said.

Siri was emaciated, bleeding and struggling to stay alive. She had been shot in the face with a shotgun.

"I called my husband crying and I said, 'I know we can't do this, but if you saw him you'd cry too,' and he said, 'Honey, do what ya got to do,'" Miller said.

Miller then loaded up Siri and another stray into her truck and headed home.

She then reached out to, 'For The Love Of Alex Inc.' on Facebook; an organization that helps fund charitable vet care for animals in need.

On Tuesday, Siri underwent surgery at the Southern Regional Veterinary Specialists in Dothan, Alabama.

"She's had a very large loss of bone to her mandible, to her left side as well," said Siri's surgeon at S.R.V.S, Dr. Brian Martin. "We're going to do a partial mandibulectomy and then do some skin reconstruction to try and restore her normal oral cavity so she can eat."

Dr. Martin says he's hopeful Siri will make a full recovery.

"Quality of life is what's priority right now and I think we can get her back to eating well and her body condition, in time, will improve as she does," he said.

As for Miller, she has a strong message for whoever did this to Siri.

"If you are that person, please get help and if you know who this person was, listen; they will turn on a child, or an adult. If somebody could put food on a gun and do this to a dog, they will do it to your child."

Officials with 'For The Love Of Alex Inc.' say they're reaching out to Animal Control in hopes of taking legal action against whoever did this.
