Press Release: Florida Lottery

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Lottery recently debuted the $50,000 GRIDIRON CASH Scratch-Off ticket featuring the Florida State Seminoles and the Florida Gators. This college football rivalry ticket offers more than $20 million in total cash prizes, including 10 top prizes of $50,000 and a fan-tastic second chance promotion.

“We are thrilled to show our support for both the Seminoles and the Gators,” said Florida Lottery Secretary Cynthia O'Connell. “This game gives us the unique opportunity not only to show support for college football in Florida, but also to generate funds for the universities and students through ticket sales, which are estimated to generate more than $5.5 million to Florida’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.”

From August 13 through November 4, players may enter their non-winning GRIDIRON CASH Scratch-Off tickets into the GRIDIRON CASH Second Chance Promotion on the Lottery’s website. Three drawings will be held between September 11 and November 6, with 140 winners selected in each drawing. Grand prize winners will receive a Hyundai Sonata GLS, second prize winners will receive a 2013 Bowl Game Package for two, third prize winners will receive a pair of season tickets, fourth prize winners will receive a pair of single game tickets and pre-game hospitality passes and fifth prize winners will receive a pair of university branded hats and a pair of university branded t-shirts.

“The Florida Lottery is a long standing partner with Florida State Athletics and we are excited to take part in this new collegiate ticket promotion” said Vanessa Fuchs, Interim Florida State Athletics Director. “Lending our brand to help generate funds for Florida schools and scholarships for deserving students is something we take pride in doing.”

“We are excited to be teaming up with the Florida Lottery in the creation of this exciting new college football-themed Scratch-Off game,” said University of Florida Director of Athletics Jeremy Foley. “It is fantastic to be able to develop exclusive Florida Gator prize elements for our fans, while generating revenue for Florida students and schools.”

IMG College, the multimedia rights partner of Florida State University and the University of Florida, brokered the agreement along with its licensing affiliate, Collegiate Licensing Company, LLC (CLC), the exclusive trademark licensing agent for both schools.

The Florida Lottery offers approximately 60 Scratch-Off games at any given time through vending machines or counter displays at more than 13,000 retailers statewide. Scratch-Off games are an important part of the Lottery’s portfolio of games, making up approximately 60 percent of ticket sales and generating more than $575 million for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF) in fiscal year 2012-13.

The Florida Lottery is responsible for contributing more than $25 billion to education and sending more than 600,000 students to college through the Bright Futures Scholarship Program. The Florida Lottery reinvests nearly 98 percent of its revenue back into Florida’s economy through prize payouts, commissions to more than 13,000 Florida retailers and transfers to education. Since 1988, Florida Lottery games have paid more than $40 billion in prizes and made more than 1,500 people millionaires. For more information, please visit
