News Release: Economic Development Council of Tallahassee/Leon County, Inc.
TALLAHASSEE – The Economic Development Council of Tallahassee/Leon County, Inc. (EDC) hosts its Entrepreneurial Showcase Monday, April 21, from 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at FSU’s Center for Advanced Aero Propulsion in Innovation Park. The event features three of the EDC’s Entrepreneurial Excellence Program graduates presenting their “elevator pitch” to U.S. Rep. Steve Southerland (R-2nd District). Also, three different graduates will present their business plans to Representative Southerland for review. The Congressman will also share his experiences of being an entrepreneur with the graduates.
“The Entrepreneurial Showcase gives our graduates the opportunity to debut their hard work to an audience of fellow entrepreneurs, business and community leaders and even a United States Congressman,” said Larry Lynch, Director of the Entrepreneurial Excellence Program. “It is an honor to have Representative Southerland in attendance and to show him firsthand the amazing entrepreneurial ecosystem we’ve created in our community. His critical role in protecting jobs, promoting economic development, and preserving treasured resources across Florida’s Second District is one of the many reasons his feedback and knowledge will provide these graduates with more guidance in the world of entrepreneurial and start-up businesses.”
The Entrepreneurial Excellence Program (EEP) application deadline for Class 8 is Tuesday, July 31, with the program kicking off again in August. This program provides valuable advice to early stage start-up businesses and entrepreneurs as they navigate through the vulnerable stages of business development. A team of local business experts, researchers and specialists help increase the chance of success in the market by providing insight into effective business models, team development, legal foundations, marketing strategies, funding insight and entrepreneurial experiences. EEP has graduated 85 diverse and dynamic businesses and more than 80 percent of graduating businesses have grown current companies and/or added jobs after the program.
“The Entrepreneurial Excellence Program is an extremely important asset to the EDC’s three core missions of retaining jobs, recruiting jobs and enhancing entrepreneurism,” said Kyle Touchstone, Executive Vice President, Economic Development Council of Tallahassee/Leon County. “The EDC is thrilled to have U.S. Rep. Steve Southerland in attendance as this event showcases the innovation and dedication of Tallahassee and the success this program has had on our community.”
