Tallahassee, Florida- August 22, 2012
At 1:00 am, on July 29, 2012, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting at 13533 Miccosukee Road. Deputies arrived on scene and discovered that Michael Carr, 35, was suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics with Leon County EMS responded to the scene and transported Carr to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit responded and conducted witness interviews, while Crime Scene Detectives collected forensic evidence from the scene.
According to witness statements, Carr was involved in an altercation with Darren L. Black, 36, during a wedding reception earlier in the evening. Carr left the reception and traveled to the home of Patrick Murray with several other friends. A short time later, Black and Rodrick Hall showed up at Murray’s residence. Black got out of Hall’s vehicle, displayed a handgun and challenged Carr to a fight. Murray ordered Black and Hall to leave the property. When Hall and Black did not, Murray entered his residence and returned with a shotgun. Murray fired a shot into the air in an attempt to get Hall and Black to leave his property. Black got into Hall’s vehicle and Hall backed out onto Miccosukee Road to leave. Black then got out of the vehicle a second time and challenged Carr to a fight. This time, Black shot Carr, returned to Hall’s vehicle and fled the scene. Murray fired a second shot from the shotgun, striking Hall’s vehicle as it fled the area.
Deputies located Hall and his vehicle at the intersection of Moccasin Gap Road and Veteran’s Memorial Highway. Minutes later, Black was located at 9007 Kipper Trail while reporting he had been shot in the ear. Both Hall and Black were interviewed at the Leon County Sheriff’s Office. Both acknowledged their involvement in this incident. Black was arrested and taken to the Leon County Jail.
On August 22, 2012, the Leon County Grand Jury indicted Black on the charges of First Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Family and friends today are mourning the loss of their loved one.
Deputies say 36-year-old Darren Black is the person who shot 35-year-old Michael Carr. Witnesses told police the men fought at the wedding reception Saturday night.
Carr left the reception and went to this home belonging to a man named Patrick Murray. The house is on the 13,000 block of Miccosukee Road on the outskirts of Leon County. Black showed up to the house in a car driven by a friend. Deputies say Black pulled out his gun and threatened Carr. Deputies say Murray grabbed his shotgun and fired a round in the air yelling at the men to leave. They began to drive off but stopped in the road. Witnesses say Black called out to Carr once more - this time shooting him.
Deputies found Black not long after the shooting. He was taken to the Leon County Jail. He had his first appearance in court this morning. Black is to stay away from Carr and Murray's families. The judge decided not to grant him bond.

A weekend of celebration turns into a tragic story. Leon County Sheriff's Officials have arrested a man they say shot and killed a man over a fight that started at a wedding reception and ended in someone's front yard. Deputies say 36-year-old Darren Black is the person who shot 35-year-old Michael Carr.
Witnesses told police the men fought at the wedding reception Saturday night. Carr left the reception and went to this home belonging to a man named Patrick Murray. The house is on the 13,000 block of Miccosukee Road on the outskirts of Leon County. Black showed up to the house in a car driven by a friend.
